Interesting perspective on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge over at HBR today:
Calls into question whether the success of the Ice Bucket challenge can be repeated, and whether it will affect change.
I have my own concerns about the ALS challenge, which I’ve refrained from sharing since so many friends and colleagues participated, and since many of you were very generous with my birthday campaign for charity:water. Still, the absence of a systemic way to raise money, build awareness, and make an impact is very real. Both for-profit and not-for-profit brands struggle. There’s no answer.
There is a problem though. How on earth are we going to get charitable donations above 2% of GDP in the US? That number is paltry. Eager to hear ideas.
